He has a total of 23 years experience in security for federal agencies. He served in the Army in 1966-71 as an armored cavalry platoon leader in Vietnam and later as an intelligence officer in Washington.  On Thursday evening, February 20, poets Alfred Arteaga and Lorna Dee Cervantes will read from their work in the Mumford Room on the sixth floor of the James Madison Memorial Building. The reading, which is presented under the auspices of the Gertrude Clarke Whittall Poetry and Literature Fund, will begin at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are not required. Alfred Arteaga was born in Los Angeles in 1950. He received his B.A. degree and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz and an M.F.A. degree in creative writing from Columbia University.   Donated by Abraham Lincoln's only surviving son, this collection of approximately 15,000 items contains primary correspondence and papers accumulated during Lincoln's presidency. The other is the Alfred Whital Stern Collection in the Rare Book and Special Collections Division. The Stern Collection contains more than 10,500 books, pamphlets, broadsides, sheet music, autograph letters, prints, cartoons, maps, drawings, and other memorabilia that offer a unique view of Lincoln's life and times.
