An addict is an addict is an addict, whether it’s painkillers, alcohol, meth, heroine, etc they are suffering from an disease that is rooted in mental health issues and a way of coping with that pain. No one, not even her in this article, is saying those who suffer chronic pain shouldn’t have access to these drugs, those who speak out against them are saying they shouldn’t be as easily accessible as they are for those who are not diagnosed with chronic pain and are obtaining them illegally be that off the streets or through heinous prescriptions or diagnoses from doctors exploiting their addiction fir their own personal wealth and gain. Both can exist without one taking from the other and that is the goal.
