 In celebration of its 90th anniversary season, the "Concerts from the Library of Congress" series has joined with the Chicago-based Reva & David Logan Foundation to showcase the Library's major jazz collections in concerts, talks, workshops and a new commission that features some of the hottest figures and musicians on the international jazz scene.  Schneider and Ibrahim will be joined by their respective ensembles to offer a cross-section of contemporary jazz in concert. Ibrahim and writer Dan Morgenstern will inaugurate the new Library of Congress Jazz Scholars program, which offers leaders in the field of jazz the opportunity to engage with the Library's jazz collections and present their findings in performance, interviews and scholarly presentations.

  I was crying and in a distressed state, and a gentleman on the way that I saw approached me to check I was ok and said he would walk me home. I felt like I couldn’t say no, and luckily for my sake he was one of the good ones and actually did walk me to my door and then leave without hurting me. Looking back, that could have so easily ended up differently. In hindsight I wasn’t in the right frame of mine to be going out and partying because that’s something I would never do now. I just feel so much for the women who have no choice but to walk places alone frequently, because it must be so draining on a regular basis. At 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, Gerald Guala, director of the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (IT IS) at the U.S. Geological Survey, will present “Big Data and the Linkage of Federal Data Resources for Biodiversity Science.” At 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, Matthew Rodell, chief of Hydrologic Sciences at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, will present “Measuring Our Underground Water Supplies from Space.” Rodell’s research focuses on the measurement and modeling of terrestrial water storage derived from ground and space-based observations.
